The bill mandates that individuals convicted of participating in illegal gambling must surrender all profits generated from such activities. The confiscated funds will be directed to the Nevada State General Fund, thereby depriving unlawful operators of their ill-gotten gains.
The overarching objective of SB 256 is to make the business of illegal gambling financially unsustainable for operators while simultaneously benefiting the state’s coffers with recovered funds.
Stricter Penalties for Violators of Gambling Laws
Aside from enabling the seizure of proceeds from illegal gambling, Senate Bill 256 seeks to impose harsher penalties on out-of-state gambling operators. Currently, violators are charged with a Class C felony in Nevada, with a maximum punishment of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
