New Jersey iGaming Industry Continues to Thrive Despite Casino Decline
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement recently released a report detailing the financial performance of the state’s gaming industry in March. The data revealed that iGaming continues to outperform traditional casino gaming, showcasing the evolution of the gambling landscape in the Garden State.
Modest Increase in Total Gaming Revenue
In March 2025, the total gaming revenue generated by New Jersey’s casinos, racetracks, and their partners reached $546.1 million, marking a 3.7% growth compared to the previous year. This growth demonstrates the resilience and strength of the New Jersey gaming sector. Year-to-date, the total gaming revenue amounted to $1.5 billion, representing a 2.5% increase from the prior year-to-date period.
During March, New Jersey’s gambling operators paid $59.8 million in taxes, bringing the year-to-date total gross revenue taxes to $175.2 million.
Mixed Results for Casinos
The casino win for Atlantic City’s nine casino hotels in March 2025 stood at $230.9 million, showing a 3.7% decrease from the previous year. Similarly, the year-to-date casino win dropped by 1.8% to $644.4 million.
Leading the sector were Borgata and Hard Rock, reporting $58.4 million and $44.5 million in March casino wins, with year-to-date total casino wins of $168.6 million and $124.4 million, respectively. Ocean Casino Resort secured the third spot with $34.7 million in March casino win and $102 million in year-to-date total casino win.
iGaming Continues to Soar
While traditional casino gaming experienced a decline, iGaming saw significant growth. The report showed that internet casino win reached $243.9 million in March 2025, a 23.7% increase from the previous year. Year-to-date, internet gaming win rose to $673.3 million, marking a 19.6% increase from the prior year-to-date period.
Top performers in March included Golden Nugget, Borgata, and Resorts World, with total internet gaming wins of $74.5 million, $58.1 million, and $56.5 million, respectively. Their year-to-date results stood at $205 million, $164.5 million, and $155.4 million, respectively.
Sports Betting Sees a Decline
On the other hand, sports betting gross revenue in March amounted to $71.3 million, down 20.5% year-on-year. The year-to-date figures also showed a decrease from $328 million to $267.1 million, reflecting an 18.67% decline.
New Meadowlands racetrack emerged as the leader in online sports wagering, generating $23.4 million in monthly online sports wagering gross revenue and $110.4 million in year-to-date online sports wagering revenue.
