PGCB Imposes Fines and Bans Individuals in Pennsylvania for Violations in Online Gambling
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) recently made headlines as it announced hefty fines totaling $70,000 against two gaming companies for various violations. Additionally, the regulator took action against several individuals, banning them from engaging in any form of gambling in the state due to illegal activities.
Underage Gambling and Licensing Issues Unveiled
On July 23, the PGCB revealed that fines were imposed on Betfair Interactive and Sugarhouse HSP Gaming for their infractions. Betfair, operating as FanDuel, was penalized $40,000 for failing to license some of its employees. Meanwhile, Sugarhouse, the operator of Rivers Philadelphia Casino, was accused of permitting minors to gamble on the premises. The regulator identified two separate instances where individuals under the legal gambling age of 21 were allowed access to the gaming area, resulting in a $30,000 fine for Sugarhouse.
Prohibition of 7 Individuals from Engaging in Gambling
In addition to the fines, PGCB announced the exclusion of seven individuals from participating in any form of gambling activities. These individuals have been placed on involuntary exclusion lists, barring them from entering casinos, participating in online gambling, or even visiting Video Gaming Terminal (VGT) halls. This brings the total number of involuntarily excluded players to 1,411.
The board highlighted the case of a female patron who left two minors unattended in a hotel room at Hollywood Casino for over 7 hours while she was gambling. Such irresponsible behavior led to her inclusion in the involuntary exclusion list. PGCB emphasized the importance of not leaving minors unsupervised in any casino facilities, vehicles, or other areas, launching the awareness campaign “Don’t Gamble with Kids” to promote responsible gambling practices.
Two individuals were also added to the involuntary interactive gaming exclusion list for fraudulent activities related to online gambling, underlining the regulator’s commitment to maintaining integrity in the online gaming sector.
