ONJN Urges Google and Meta to Take Action Against Illegal Online Gambling Ads
Romania has recently taken a stand against illegal online gambling activities by calling on tech giants Google and Meta to remove paid advertisements promoting unauthorized gambling platforms. The country’s regulatory body, Oficiul Național pentru Jocuri de Noroc (ONJN), issued formal letters to Meta and Google, requesting immediate action to combat the spread of illegal gambling content.
Crackdown on Illegal Gambling Ads
The ONJN raised concerns about sponsored ads appearing on Meta’s social media platforms and Google search results that promoted gambling operations not authorized in Romania. As a result, ONJN called on Meta and Google to investigate and remove these ads to protect Romanian players from unauthorized gambling activities.
